A Message About the Class
Objective: Mesajdaki günü, saati ve gerekli eşyaları ayırt et.
Editorial level target: Fluenty editorial target: 100–150 words, familiar adult situations, mostly short clauses and a concrete information-finding purpose. This is not an official CEFR word-count rule. Actual passage count: 108 words.
Suggested sequence
- 2 minutes: use the warm-up to establish a reading purpose; ask learners to predict, not guess the correct answer.
- 5 minutes: first read for the overall situation or argument. Second read for details; ask learners to point to paragraph evidence.
- 5 minutes: complete the comprehension items. Reveal one explanation at a time and distinguish a wrong interpretation from an unsupported claim.
- 4 minutes: use the vocabulary items in fresh sentences. Invite learners to explain why the word fits.
- 4 minutes: complete controlled sentence practice before opening model responses. Discuss alternative wordings.
- 5 minutes: speak, then write independently. For pairs, ask each learner to paraphrase the other’s position before responding.
Comprehension answers and evidence
- Room 8 — paragraph 1: The first sentence gives the room.
- At seven — paragraph 2: The class runs from six to seven.
- A notebook and a pen — paragraph 2: The message asks for a notebook and pen.
- The front door closes then. — paragraph 3: The building notice is the reason.
- Inside the entrance — paragraph 4: The final paragraph gives the meeting place.
Vocabulary key
- entrance — the place where you go into a building. Leyla will wait inside the entrance.
- across — on the other side of a street or space. The buses stop across the street.
- arrive — reach a place. Please arrive before half past five.
Controlled practice and alternatives
- Complete: The class ___ at six and finishes at seven.
Accept: starts; begins
Model: The class starts at six and finishes at seven.
Both “starts” and “begins” express the opening time. - Join with “because”: Arrive early. The door closes at 5:30.
Accept: Arrive early because the door closes at 5:30.; Please arrive early because the door closes at half past five.
Model: Please arrive early because the door closes at half past five.
“Because” gives the reason for the request.
Open production: guidance
Check that learners separate the lesson start from the earlier building-door time. In independent writing, accept different real or imagined event details if day/time/place/items are present.
Accept a different position or example if it is coherent, relevant and preserves the task facts. Do not treat the model as the only valid answer. Evaluate language form, clarity and task fulfilment separately. This activity is not a CEFR test.
Next step
Ask the learner to restate the main information or argument without looking at the text. Then use the same language purpose in a new setting.
